The (Dying) Art And Pleasure of Pipe Smoking

I beg your pardon, I am not in the business of promoting pipe smoking or any brand of pipe tobacco for that matter but I remember back in the days of old pipe tobacco smoking was as trendy as having the latest model cellular phones as it is now. Back then, those pipe tobacco smokers were considered to be in a different league of the society, or at least those smokers thought so.

Now all those are considered rare, very rare indeed if not exceptional. May be we should consider this group of people, if any, to the protected species of our humankind. In the past decade or two I have not seen any young smokers doing pipe tobacco. May be they do not know that such thing exist or maybe they considered pipe tobacco smoking as being troublesome and outdated. Never mind about that. One thing for sure is that we now missed the nice aromatic smell of pipe tobacco smoke, which to many is less of a nuisance as compared to the smoke emitted from conventional cigarettes.

Quite some sometime ago I chanced upon quite an elderly man jealously holding a pipe and puffing from it with all the confidence a tobacco piper has to offer. His facial gestures were as if nothing else matters except for the pleasure derived from inhaling the "gloriously" addictive smoke of the aromatic tobacco. Below is a sequence of images of the only local pipe smoker I have ever met in so many years.

One kindly reminder though, please do not imitate this in front of your love ones.

For this man, at least he will be remembered for a long time to come or for as long as this blog still exist. Thank you uncle or however you are addressed for being the unpretentious subject of my camera.

Dear Mr Ahmed,

Thank you for commenting.

What you said is indeed true. It reminds me about some very nostalgic moments in those days how pipe smokers would leisurely wind down their days. The actions of stuffing the tobacco, lighting the pipe and puffing out the smoke is indeed like seeing pleasure in motion.
